چکیده

This paper presents the practical results obtained on the field from two different methods for identifying and locating leaks in water distribution systems using network modeling based algorithms. Both methods are based on the sensitivity analysis of pressure measurements to the demand variation in any node in the distribution system. This work is mainly focused on the obtained results using both methodologies in two different leak episodes, both in Icaria pilot DMA sector in Barcelona. The first episode is a non-calibrated real multi-leak scenario. The second episode was a calibrated artificial leak. Results are similar for both methods, and the identification of location of leaks is found within 150 meter from the actual leaks. © 2013 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd. INVERSE FREQUENCY RESPONSE ANALYSIS FOR PIPELINES LEAK DETECTION USING THE PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZATION

Inverse Transient Analysis (ITA) is a powerful approach for leak detection of pipelines. When the pipe transient flow is analyzed in frequency domain the ITA is called Inverse Frequency Response Analysis (IFRA). To implement an IFRA for leak detection, a transient state is initiated in the pipe by fast closure of the downstream end valve. Then, the pressure time history at the valve location is...

Statistical Review of Major Standpoints in Hydraulic Transient-Based Leak Detection

Today, pipe systems are the most common facilities to convey various fluids from one place to another. In such facilities faults like leaks lead to advert consequences such as economic losses and social health threats. The fact that early detection of leaks can play a prominent role in reducing the amount of these undesired impacts has absorbed noticeable attention from researchers to this fiel...

State-of-the-Art in Leak Detection and Localisation

Many fluids transported by pipelines are hazardous. It is therefore often necessary to install leak detection (and localization) systems (LDS), especially due to legal regulations like • the “Code for Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 49 Part 195” [1], API 1130 2 Ed. [2], both for the USA, or • the “Technische Regeln für Fernleitungen” (TRFL) (Technical Rules for Pipelines) in Germany [5]. This p...

Leak Localisation Methodology and Real Applications

The leak localization community is very active and the Research Centre for Supervision, Safety and Automatic Control (CS2AC) is specially implicated in such an important issue. We have developed a methodology for leak localization using pressure measurements and hydraulic models. It is based on the fault detection and isolation theory and it evolved from a first version where binary residuals w...

LEAK DETECTION IN WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM USING NON-LINEAR KALMAN FILTER

Leakage detection in water distribution systems play an important role in storage and management of water resources. Therefore, to reduce water loss in these systems, a method should be introduced that reacts rapidly to such events and determines their occurrence time and location with the least possible error. In this study, in order to determine position and amount of leakage in distribution ...
